You find it exciting how the human body works and a desk job is too boring for you? You would like to help people, can put yourself in the shoes of others and prefer to act on your own responsibility? You want a professional degree in physical therapy and an academic degree? With a degree? With our qualifying degree program in physiotherapy you get both! You'll become an expert in how human movement works, what keeps people healthy and what makes them sick. You will learn in small groups in close contact with lecturers, which therapies according to the current state of science really help sick people to become healthy and to lead their lives as independently as possible.

What makes this degree programme special?

  • Healthcare hand in hand: collaboration with other healthcare professions, such as future occupational therapists, nurses, midwives and paramedics
  • Insights into your future working life: gain practical experience with our numerous cooperation partners; choose from a wide range of internships within our extensive network
  • Close proximity to IT and engineering departments, allowing you to rethink physiotherapy

What is the structure of the programme?

The primary qualifying study programme combines a professional qualification in physiotherapy with a first academic degree. Studies and practical training are closely interlinked in terms of organisation and content. The programme consists of two study sections. Upon successful completion, you will acquire 210 ECTS points, the permission to use the professional title "Physiotherapist" and the academic degree "Bachelor of Science".

Study modules on fields of activity typical for the profession of physiotherapy form central elements of the curriculum and indicate the focus of individual semesters:

  • Musculoskeletal system
  • Neuromuscular system and mental health
  • Early life phase
  • Internal organ systems
  • Late life phase and chronic diseases
  • Physiotherapeutic autonomy of action

The fields of action typical of the profession thus form the central study strand, which is supplemented by basic modules and scientific teaching modules, some of which are studied jointly with other study programmes.

According to the currently valid training and examination regulations for physiotherapists (PhysTh-APrV), practical assignments of at least 1,600 hours must be completed during the physiotherapy studies. At the University of Applied Sciences Jena, a network of established medical institutions in and around Jena is available to you for this purpose, which means that you do not have to organise the internships independently and can still choose freely between them.

Our study programme is accredited by the Accreditation Agency for Health and Social Services (AHPGS) until 30 September 2026.

What career prospects do I have after completing my studies?

The Physiotherapy degree programme prepares you to treat people with mobility impairments of all ages and to specifically promote movement and health in all phases of life and living environments.

You will be prepared for work in your (own) physiotherapy practice, rehabilitation clinics, sports clubs, nursing homes for the elderly, hospices and institutions for the disabled.

After graduation you will be able to:

  • independently treat children, adults, athletes and old people physiotherapeutically, taking into account the current state of research;
  • develop concepts for health promotion and prevention programmes and implement them on your own responsibility;
  • advise, train and instruct patients, their relatives and institutions on issues of maintaining health, reducing health risks, recovery and dealing with chronic illnesses;
  • transfer scientifically based recommendations for action (so-called evidence-based guidelines) into practice and design standards to improve the quality of physiotherapeutic treatment;
  • design and monitor work processes and
  • participate in research projects.

How does the application process work?

Application period 15.05. to 15.07.
1. Registration hochschulstart.de
