Profile of University of Applied Sciences Jena

The University of Applied Sciences Jena was founded in 1991, making it one of the first in the new federal states. For several years, it has not only been Thuringia's largest, but also the most research-intensive university for applied sciences. We currently have around 4,200 Bachelor's and Master's students. In addition, we employ around 560 people in the areas of science, administration, technology and the library.

The range of courses offered by the University of Applied Sciences Jena focuses on the fields of engineering, economics, social sciences and health sciences and is characterized by a high degree of practical relevance. The university ensures the latter in particular through its involvement in various networks, the appointment of professors from business and through project and research work, internships, excursions and theses with numerous cooperation partners. In addition, business games, case studies and practical lectures are integrated into the curriculum, interdisciplinary events are offered and coaching-based support services, such as Career Service and Founder Service. The bachelor's and master's courses at University of Applied Sciences Jena meet high academic standards and at the same time the practical requirements of tomorrow's specialists and managers.

The University of Applied Sciences Jena works closely with partners from business and science. The research fields in the areas of "precision systems", "technologies and materials" and "health and sustainability" reflect both technically and socially current topics. In addition, there is the interdisciplinary field of digitization, in which various aspects of Industry 4.0 are examined. This interaction of different disciplines enables a creative and innovative approach to research topics and problems. The university fundamentally understands cooperation with business and society as a multidirectional interaction. Therefore, we support both researchers and teachers as well as external partners in transfer activities. In addition, we promote the transfer of knowledge through internships, theses and doctoral projects as well as through support for start-up projects.

The University of Applied Sciences Jena cooperates with numerous universities and research institutions worldwide. It thus promotes the exchange of students and scientists as well as ideas and know-how. The proportion of exchange students is constantly increasing. Lecturers at the University of Applied Sciences Jena also occasionally work at universities in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. This development is specifically promoted by numerous cooperation agreements. One focus of internationalization is cooperation within the framework of the ERASMUS+ program of the European Union. The proportion of international students is around 22%. Studies and internships abroad are integrated into the curriculum of some courses.

The study conditions are as diverse as the teaching and research opportunities - we offer a lively campus with technically excellently equipped laboratories, the best support during your studies and cosmopolitan fellow students.

We offer a collaborative and family-friendly working environment in the public sector with varied tasks and opportunities for further training.
