Career Talks in Summer Semester 2023
Career planning is the process of discovering your opportunities that match your interests, passions and goals. This process involves a series of simple steps and can be applied throughout your career. Make sure you are working towards goals that satisfy you, no matter where you are in your career. This workshop outlines the steps you can take to get on the right path. A must-have for moving your career forward!
Speaker Joanna Pawlaczek holds a Master‘s Degree in Intercultural Human Resource Development and Communication Management (FSU Jena) and presently works at the Thuringian Agency For Skilled Personnel Marketing (ThAFF). ThAFF is a state-wide institution for skilled professionals who are planning their private and professional future in Thuringia as well as for Thuringian employers looking for support to secure skilled personnel.

To start working successfully in Germany you should be familiar with the German cultural standards and their influence on the work sphere. In this seminar we discuss the typical German way of working and behaviour of your German colleagues. We will find out why things are done in a certain way and what goals Germans pursue with it but also which conflicts may occur. Moreover, there will reflect your own experiences with the German culture. Additionally, we define the role of an employee and a superior. At the end, we will compare your native culture with the German culture and use case studies to practice analyzing different perspectives and discuss possible solutions to avoid misunderstandings.

- German cultural standards at work
- Analysis of their impact on work-related situations
- Classification of cultures according to the Lewis model
- Determination of the personal characteristics of the participants
- Identification of possible conflicts and tips on how to avoid them
