Application for winter semester 15.05. To 15.07.

The formal admission requirements are regulated by the study regulations of the Master's degree programme in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (see aptitude procedure regulations in the appendix of the study regulations).

Essential prerequisites for admission to the study programme are:

  • a degree in a Bachelor's or Diploma degree programme, in particular in the fields of biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, medical biotechnology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical and chemical engineering or biopharmaceutical technology
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of natural sciences and engineering, such as mathematics, physics, computer science, electronics, biology and chemistry
  • Knowledge of biochemistry, process analytics, genetic engineering, microbiology, cell biology, bioprocess engineering and bioprocess MSR technology

Prospective students should ideally have a bachelor's degree in biotechnology and a strong interest in solving interdisciplinary problems. An enthusiasm for all stages of the pharmaceutical-biotechnological value chain - from the molecular target to the marketable pharmaceutical product - is expected.

In addition, successful admission also requires a positive result in the internal selection procedure. The following characteristics are taken into account.

  • The overall grade of the bachelor's or diploma degree (max. 65 points)
  • Publications, posters or scientific presentations (up to 10 points)
  • Substance and persuasiveness of the motivation letter (up to 5 points)
  • Professional training and professional experience in the biotechnological field (up to 10 points)
  • Additional specialist qualifications in the biotechnological field (up to 10 points)
  • Recommendations of academic referees (up to 10 points)

For admission, the applicant must score at least 60 out of a maximum of 110 points.

Application documents specific to the degree programme:

  • University entrance qualification
  • Letter of motivation, max. two pages 
  • Academic career (e.g. curriculum vitae)
  • If available: Proof of publications, posters or scientific presentations
  • If available: Proof of professional activities and internships
  • If available: Proof of additional subject-specific qualifications
  • if available: Recommendations of the academic referees

When applying online, the following documents must be submitted electronically in the aptitude procedure for consecutive Master's degree programmes (in PDF format, max. 1000 kb per proof):

  • Bachelor's degree completed
    • Copy of the Bachelor's or Diploma certificate
    • Copy of the Bachelor's or Diploma certificate
    • Copy of the detailed overview of subjects or achievements in addition to the Bachelor's degree certificate
    • Copy of the exmatriculation certificate
  • Bachelor's degree not yet completed
    • Copy of the detailed overview of subjects or achievements with the preliminary overall grade (without Bachelor thesis and, if applicable, without defence)
    • Copy of the current certificate of study
  • Copy of the current certificate of study
    • Further application documents
    • Copy of the university entrance qualification
    • Letter of motivation, max. two pages (if applicable, depending on the degree programme) 
    • Proof of publications (if applicable, depending on the degree programme)
    • Proof of further education and training (if applicable, depending on the degree programme)
    • Proof of professional activities and internships (if applicable, depending on the degree programme)
    • Recommendations from academic experts (if applicable, depending on the degree programme)
    • Proof of English language skills by means of an appropriate certificate, e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/English module (if applicable, depending on the degree programme)
    • Curriculum vitae

After successful online application and admission to the desired degree programme, you apply for enrolment electronically and then send the enrolment documents (see below) to the university by post.

  • signed application for enrolment (generated after the electronic application for enrolment)
  • current copy of your passport or identity document
  • Bank statement with proof of payment of the semester fee
  • An electronic notification of your health insurance status. Please contact your health insurance company so that they can send us the required M10 notification electronically. Please quote the sender number of the Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena H0001255.
  • Proof of completion of the Bachelor's degree:
    • Officially certified copy of the Bachelor's certificate as well as the Bachelor's degree certificate (if you are studying at EAH Jena for the first time) or
    • a simple copy of the Bachelor's certificate (if you have already completed your Bachelor's degree at EAH Jena).
    • Copy of the exmatriculation certificate

Note: If the documents on the completion of the Bachelor's degree are not yet available, please send a subject and performance overview with an overall grade. If this is also not yet available, you can also use this form to provide confirmation of the successful completion of the Bachelor's degree programme.

1. you can have certifications made, for example, by municipal authorities (e.g. city council), health insurance companies or a notary. Otherwise, if you submit your application documents to us in person, you can bring along your original certificates and show them to us.

In your own interest, please make sure that the documents you submit are complete, otherwise your application for enrollment may be processed with a time delay.

3. please do not send us originals unless this is expressly requested.
