- Energy technology
- Automotive industry
- Electronics
- Information technology
- Optical industry
- Medical technology
Materials manufacturing industry:
- Building materials manufacturers
- Metallurgy
- Glass and ceramics industry
Materials processing industry
- Plastics processing
- Metal processing
- Ceramics industry
Materials science-oriented research institutions
The Master's degree also provides access to doctoral studies.
- Electrical Engineering / Information Technology (System Design) (Master of Engineering)
- Mechanical Engineering (Master of Engineering)
- Mechatronics (Master of Engineering)
- Scientific Instrumentation (Master of Science)
- Industrial Engineering (Master of Science)
The study programme Materials Engineering is a consecutive Master's degree programme that builds on a Bachelor's or Diploma degree programme in a modular way. In 4 semesters, knowledge is expanded and specifically deepened.
In the Master's programme, emphasis is placed on independent scientific work and research under supervision. The main language of the programme is German. The Master's thesis is written in the last semester and presented in the subsequent colloquium. The application-oriented orientation of the degree programme is also reflected in the "Master of Engineering" degree.

The admission requirement for the Master's programme in Materials Engineering is a good diploma or bachelor's degree in materials engineering, materials science or a comparable natural science/technical degree programme.
Assessment criteria:
- Weighting of the final grade of the first academic degree: Score = (4 - final grade or preliminary average grade) * 25 points.
- Evaluation of the quality and fit of the completed Bachelor's degree (up to 20 points)
- Evaluation of the quality of special academic achievements through research work in relevant subject area (up to 20 points)
- Evaluation of the letter of motivation, taking into account the previous educational and professional path (up to 10 points).
To be admitted, 50 of the 125 possible points are required.
A good knowledge of English is required, which is usually demonstrated either by a TOEFL test or by proof that modules were completed in English during the Bachelor's degree programme. These can also be foreign language modules.
Studiengangsspezifische Bewerbungsunterlagen:
- Motivationsschreiben, max. zwei Seiten
