Find jobs and internships

The Career Service supports students and alumni of the EAH Jena in their search for theses, internships and the right position for a career start. There are a variety of search strategies that you can use:

Job portal of the EAH Jena

In the job portal of the EAH Jena you will find current vacancies for jobs, internships, traineeships or topics for your thesis.

Job and internship exchanges

Job and internship exchanges publish job advertisements from various companies, whereby there are now extensive offers. Some of these search engines specialise in certain areas, such as region, industry or occupational group.

Here you will find an overview of online job exchanges and internship exchanges. This selection is not exhaustive.

Trade fairs

Job fairs offer an ideal opportunity to make contact with potential employers and have initial discussions with HR managers. Here, students and graduates have the opportunity to find out about new prospects for starting a career. They can get a first impression of the company and make the best possible impression of themselves. In this context, initial questions and uncertainties can be clarified. Therefore, it is important to inform yourself about your favorite companies in advance of a trade fair and to prepare application folders or flyers accordingly.

Networking

The importance of social networks on the Internet in the job search continues to grow: present yourself and thereby be found by employers. The principle here is to use social networks effectively. From the different networks, pick out those that are relevant to the industry or the target group. It is important to be present in the networks in which the companies or experts are also active who are interesting for your own field, and to network with them in a targeted manner: by "following", commenting, making your own contributions in online discussions or by making direct contact on a virtual or real level.

The most important social networks in Germany are Xing, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook or Google+.

In addition to networks on the Internet, the use of personal contacts is equally helpful in the job search. Information about a company and vacancies is most likely to be obtained from members of the company or, at best, from the respective specialist departments or the HR department.

Unsolicited applications

If you apply conscientiously to job advertisements, you usually have a good chance of finding a suitable job or internship. With a speculative application, you show the potential employer that you want to take your career into your own hands and not leave it to chance.

A speculative application is an application that is made without a prior offer. Although you are not applying for a specific job advertisement, you are applying for a specific position.

A speculative application is definitely more time-consuming than other types of job or internship search, as intensive research into potential companies and their fields of activity must be carried out in advance of the application. For this reason, this form should not be considered as the sole method. However, it makes sense in combination with the other options, as companies often only advertise part of their vacancies.

Newspapers and trade journals

Newspapers and trade journals are another way of looking for a job or internship. This includes regular research in local or regional newspapers, depending on the desired place of work. In Jena these are for example Ostthüringer Zeitung (OTZ), Thüringische Landeszeitung (TLZ) or also Allgemeiner Anzeiger.

For the search for nationwide or international job advertisements you can fall back on DIE ZEIT, Die Welt, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Das Handelsblatt or taz - die Tageszeitung.

For many industries there are also trade journals, which are increasingly used by companies to recruit employees.
