Biotechnology is an application-oriented and interdisciplinary science at the interface of natural science and technology. Fundamental to biotechnology is the use of biomolecules, cells and whole organisms in technical applications.

You use scientific knowledge, especially from biology, to develop new biotechnological production processes. These can be used, for example, to produce medicines, fine and basic chemicals, biofuels, foodstuffs and enzymes for a wide range of applications. In addition, biotechnological methods are used in the development of new diagnostic test procedures and analytical techniques. Finally, biotechnological processes are also used in environmental protection plants.
