What is the structure of the programme?
In six semesters, this Bachelor's degree programme lays the foundation for the later profession of optometrist. Typical subject areas taught in the degree programme are:
- Optometry
- Anatomy and physiology
- Pathology and pharmacology
- Application of equipment and examination methods

What are the entry requirements?
- Higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), subject-related higher education entrance qualification or entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife)

- Did you complete your school or university education abroad? Please note the admission requirements for studying in Germany.
- Proof of an 8-week preliminary internship in a specialist opticians shop is required. In justified exceptional cases, a missing pre-study internship can be made up in lecture-free periods up to the 3rd semester.

The demands on people's visual tasks are constantly growing. Highly qualified specialists are needed not only in specialist optical shops, but also in medicine and the optical industry to meet the complex requirements through interdisciplinary work. With the Bachelor of Science you acquire an internationally recognised degree and thus secure good opportunities on the global job market.
After completing their studies, graduates of the Bachelor of Optometry will be able to recognise, analyse and adequately treat not only refractive errors but also visual disorders at a scientific level. The fields of application are accordingly:
- specialised optician shops/institutes
- ophthalmological institutions, e.g. ophthalmological practices and eye clinics
- Institutions for the rehabilitation of the visually impaired
- Optical industry
- Research institutes
