What is the structure of the programme?
The 1st and 2nd semesters serve to expand and deepen the knowledge acquired so far. Several subject-specific modules are offered for this purpose. Within the area of Social Work, the focus is on an examination of current discourses and theories. The aim is to be able to further develop fields of action in Social Work conceptually, theoretically, and through research. To this end, in several modules, you will become familiar with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. You will integrate these into a research design appropriate to the subject matter for a self-designed research and development project, which you will then implement practically over two semesters under scientific supervision. Additionally, leadership tasks and coaching as a consulting format are central themes in the Coaching and Leadership modules.
In the 3rd and 4th semesters, the acquired knowledge in leadership is further developed. The module Social Policy and Organisation of Social Services is also offered. Subjects like Organisation and Management and Legal Foundations prepare you for the conceptual design of processes, workflows, and social service facilities.
The 5th semester is dedicated to the preparation of the Master’s thesis. After successful completion of the programme, the academic degree awarded is the Master of Arts.

- Research and development activities
- activities in the higher civil service
- leadership tasks in the fields of social work.

A civil service career in the higher civil service can also be pursued with this qualification. The majority of graduates find employment in public and private social welfare institutions. The Master's degree qualifies graduates for management positions in these areas. It is conceivable, for example, to work as the head of a day-care centre, as a department head in the public sector or as an executive in social management. Typical fields of work can be found here, among others:
