The master's degree program Electrical Engineering / Information Technology allows you to study according to your individual interests in the fields of Automation and Robotics, Communication and Circuit Engineering, Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence or Space Electronics.

A particular highlight is the Space Electronics specialization. It combines core topics in electronics and information technology with specialized expertise for operation in space environments – a combination that is unique in Germany and in high demand, especially in the growing New Space industry. Our students regularly participate in the international REXUS/BEXUS program, developing their own experiments for rockets and high-altitude balloons. This is your chance to get involved and build your professional network.

What makes this degree programme special?

  • Experiencing the future firsthand: Opportunity to specialise in space electronics, quantum technologies or robotics – located directly in the high-tech hub of Jena
  • Researching and creating: Opportunities for independent research and PhD projects, including research stays abroad
  • Also as an option with in-depth practice in cooperating companies

What is the structure of the programme?

The Master's programme "Electrical Engineering / Information Technology" is a consecutive programme. The study programme comprises 3 semesters. A complex internship is completed in the second and third semesters. The degree is completed by writing the Master's thesis and a colloquium in which the results are presented. The programme can also be completed part-time.

What are the entry requirements?

The admission requirement for the Master's degree programme "Electrical Engineering/Information Technology" is a degree in the Bachelor's degree programme "Electrical Engineering/Information Technology" or "Automation Technology/Information Technology International" at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena or an academic degree recognised as equivalent in an identical or subject-related field of study from another educational institution.
Either the overall grade of the degree must be at least "Good" or proof of several years of successful professional activity in the subject area must be provided. For foreign applicants, proof of a successful language proficiency test (DSH level 2 or 3, TestDaF level 4 or 5 or other equivalent language certificates) is required.

What career prospects do I have after completing my studies?

Electrical engineering and information technology are the foundations of digitalisation in society and industry. Without these basic sciences, mobile telephony, computers or modern vehicles, for example, would not be feasible. In all areas of electrical engineering and information technology, the design of circuits, electronic components and devices and their applications, as well as the programming of computers and controllers, take place.  Electrical and information technology systems connect business, science and our society, so many future paths are open to you according to your personal interests. With this Master's degree, you qualify for engineering activities and tasks in the field of research and development of business and science.

The Master's degree offers many opportunities to work in various branches of industry, from automotive technology to medical technology to rough-riding technology. In addition, the degree qualifies you for jobs in research institutions, as well as for doctoral studies at a college or university.
