Second degree
What is a second degree?
A second degree program is an additional undergraduate program that is undertaken after successfully completing a degree. A defining feature of a second degree program is that the additional program is an undergraduate program (bachelor degree). Undergraduate degree programs are programs that can also be chosen as a first degree; therefore, a completed university degree is not a prerequisite for admission.
How do I apply for a second degree?
Applications for a second degree are generally submitted in the same way as for a first degree for programs with open admission; for programs with limited admission, applications are submitted through a quota reserved for second-degree applicants. Please pay particular attention to the application instructions for the relevant program groups (open admission, limited admission, etc.).
What do I need to keep in mind as a second-degree applicant?
Universities in Thuringia charge students a long-term study fee of 500 euros for each semester that exceeds the standard duration of a bachelor’s or consecutive master’s program by more than four semesters. Since you have already completed a degree and thus have a certain number of university semesters under your belt, you may be required to pay this fee.
