Certificate of Enrollment
What is a certificate of enrollment?
A certificate of enrollment or certificate of study serves as proof of a student’s enrollment at a university, in addition to their student ID. The certificate is generally valid for one semester. In addition to the student’s full name, date of birth, and place of birth, the certificate also specifies the period of validity and key details regarding the student’s program. These typically include the type of degree being pursued, the field of study, the current semester, and the standard duration of study. In addition, every certificate of enrollment includes a so-called student ID number, a unique identifier assigned by the respective university. The certificate of enrollment also serves as a certificate pursuant to § 9 BAföG.
How do I get my certificate of enrollment?
You can access certificates of enrollment in German and English for the current semester as well as for up to two previous semesters via the Campus Portal. To do so, log in using your student credentials.
You can find the documents in the Student Services section under the “Reports/Certificates” tab in the “Common Reports” area. The certificate of enrollment contains a verification code and can therefore be submitted to government agencies (e.g., the Foreigners’ Registration Office) or offices (e.g., the Office for Student Financial Aid) without a stamp or signature.
