Literature management program

The literature management program Citavi supports you in organising knowledge and in indexing and integrating research results in academic papers.

As a member of our university you will receive a license for Citavi free of charge.

That is how it works:

With version 6, projects can be saved locally on a computer or in the Citavi Cloud. Teams can also use the cloud as a storage location for shared projects. Projects can be edited on all computers on which Citavi is installed.

  1. First download the installation file and install the software on your computer.
  2. You will then need to register with your personal Ernst-Abbe-University email address: registration (login)
  3. To confirm your access authorization, you will then receive an email from Citavi in which you must confirm the link provided.
  4. In the next step, fill out the online form and enter a password of your choice.

Finally, start the installed program on your computer and log in with your account.

Citavi runs on Windows.

If you want to use it on Mac, you will need to use a virtualization solution.

This step-by-step guide will help you.

If you do not want to install Citavi on your computer or do not have a Windows-based device, you can alternatively use the web version of Citavi. However, this does not yet have the same range of functions as the installed program. You can read about the (still) missing functions on the "missing functions in Citavi Web" page.

The web version also requires the creation of an account and corresponding verification with your university email address: registration (login)

Trainings

If you have any questions about literature management and knowledge organisation with Citavi or don't know what to do next, you are welcome to take part in a training course.
