Using library services from home

Access to electronic resources

As a member of the University of Applied Sciences Jena you get also access to our electronic resources from off-campus. For this purpose you need Shibboleth or VPN.

Shibboleth

Shibboleth is an authentication service that enables access to the library's online resources from outside the university.

To access the required resource, you must authenticate yourself with your valid university login. Look for "Login" or "Sign in" on the website of the database or full text provider. When logging in, select Ernst Abbe University (as your institution). Then log in with your personal data (e.g. like in Moodle).

In an external file we have demonstrated the process using an example.

If you have any questions, please contact the library staff at the circulation desk at any time!

  • Access via Shibboleth can also be hidden behind phrases such as "institutionelles Login" or "Select your region or group".
  • Choose our institution, the Ernst Abbe Hochschule Jena, from a selection list. It is sometimes abbreviated as "EAH Jena" or "Jena EAH".
  • Sometimes you have to make a pre-selection before you can choose our facility: “Germany DFN-AAI” or “German Higher Education and Research”.
  • Enter your personal EAH ID in the registration form - just like you would in Moodle.
  • After registering for the first time via Shibboleth, you must agree to the terms and conditions of participation. For subsequent Shibboleth registrations with other providers, you will only be shown the note of the data to be transferred, which you must confirm.
  • By closing the browser you end the session and the login data can only be removed by deleting the cookies.

The following electronic resources can be used from outside the university via Shibboleth:

VPN

As an alternative to Shibboleth, our electronic resources can also be accessed via VPN access (Virtual Private Network). In order to use VPN access, you must create a certificate and set up a VPN connection on your own PC.

  • Hoppenstedt Firmendatenbank Bisnode
  • Datastream
  • HPS-Media Verlag
