About the University of Applied Sciences Jena
The University of Applied Sciences Jena was founded in October 1991 and has about 4,700 students. With a high reputation for teaching and research, it enjoys strong links with industry. Various projects as well as Bachelor and Master theses are conducted in cooperation with well-established and highly innovative companies such as Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, Jenoptik AG, Siemens AG and many others.

About the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
With 340 students, 11 faculty, 12 staff and 20 state-of-the-art laboratories, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology offers both research and educational excellence. Our programs of study provide a balance between theory, research and practice to maximise student learning.

Academic Programs
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology offers two Bachelor degrees (Bachelor of Engineering ­– B. Eng.): 

  • Electrical Engineering / Information Technology, with the areas of specialization
              o Automation Engineering
              o Computer Engineering
              o Communication and Media Technology
  • Automation Engineering / Information Technology International

The Bachelor's degree programs take seven semesters to complete. The Bachelor graduate is qualified to enter an appropriate profession or a Master's study.

Master's studies at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology extend over three semesters. We offer three Master degrees (Master of Engineering):

  • System Design, with the areas of specialization
             oAutomation Engineering
             o Embedded Systems
             oOptoelectronics
             oMixed Signal Design
  • Space Electronics
  • Mechatronics

Academic programs for international students
International students can take part in engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Jena at different levels.
They can

  • complete a Bachelor`s or Master`s degree at the University of Applied Sciences Jena
  • spend one or more semester as exchange students at the University of Applied Sciences Jena
  • take part in our special programs for international students which extend over four or five weeks
  • (Summer and Autumn Academies)

All regular programs of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology are held in German. The programs of the Summer and Autumn Academies are offered in English.

Special Programs (Summer and Autumn Academies)
Courses in English are possible as special offers. These are Summer or Autumn Academies of four or five weeks. Together with selected courses on Electronics, Microprocessor Technology, Real-Time Operating Systems, Electrical Drives and Precision Instrumentation, visits to industry and a cultural program are included. We can also pick up students from the airport and accompany them to their hotel or dormitory.
