Welcome to Vitawave

The VITAWAVE Research Group at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena focuses on application-oriented technology research in the life sciences – particularly in healthcare, medicine, and nursing.

Established in 2023, VITAWAVE is developing into a key research hub through projects such as MEXT and VITARAS. The group is building advanced expertise and R&D infrastructure in cutting-edge, real-time capable radar and image processing technologies. These activities are closely linked to teaching and professional training within the university.

Our research spans the development of high-frequency circuits and ultrafast parallel data interfaces to enable real-time transmission of radar and camera data. We also explore the limitations of commercial radar systems for vital sign monitoring in dynamic environments, designing novel front-end components to push these boundaries.

VITAWAVE contributes to strengthening the university's specialization in medical technology and innovation in health-related applications. Our work is embedded in a collaborative ecosystem, involving regional companies, other departments at the university, and external research institutions. This fosters an innovation-driven environment for transformative value chains that integrate key technologies from medicine, sensor systems, and communication technology.
