TOOLS-Colloquium
Aim of this series of events at the interface of optics, biophotonics and medical technology is to create an interdisciplinary discussion forum that specifically bridges the gap between experimental optics and specific medical requirements.
Next TOOLS Colloquium will take place on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, from 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, Lecture Hall 1 (room 03.03.01).
Dr Silvio Fuchs, Professor of Digital Optical Technologies at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, specialises in areas including EUV radiation, soft X-rays and high-harmonic generation. The title of his lecture is: ‘Ultrafast and ultrasmall – Semiconductor inspection driven by attosecond light sources’.
Introductory days for new students 2026
Every year, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena welcomes its new students as part of its orientation week.
There are separate welcome events for Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
This year’s orientation days will take place during the week of 5–9 October 2026.
You will get to know our department, receive valuable information about your degree programme and make your first contacts with your fellow students.
Matriculation Ceremony 2026
Every year, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena welcomes its newly enrolled students, along with their families and friends, at a festive ceremony.
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at 3.00 pm in Ernst-Abbe-Saal at Volkshaus Jena (Carl-Zeiß-Platz 15).

Taster Course 2026
Would you like to find out what everyday student life is like and experience it first-hand? Then why not come along to our taster course at Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena from 27 to 29 October 2026!
Here, you’ll have the chance to take part in lectures, seminars and various practical sessions tailored to your interests. You’ll be right at heart of student life!
The taster course is aimed particularly at school pupils in classes 9 to 13 and offers a varied programme.
Day of Research
We are delighted to welcome you to this year’s Research Day. You can look forward to fascinating insights into current research topics and in-depth discussions with researchers and students.
business networking event ‘Practice Meets Campus’
On 12 November 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., regional and national companies will be presenting their opportunities – such as work placements, jobs and dissertation topics – directly on EAH Jena university campus.
Long Night of Sciences
The next Long Night of Science in Jena will take place on 20 November 2026.
The SciTec department will be taking part as usual with an exciting programme for young and old.
