Admission requirements and course content

  • very good bachelor's degree or other equivalent university degree in materials science or materials engineering or a comparable technical or scientific field
  • good English skills 
    • TOEFL test
      > 550 points in the paper-based version or 
      > 213 points in the computer-based version or 
      > 79 points in the internet-based version
    • IELTS test (“overall band score” of 6.0)
    • Proof that the bachelor's degree was completed in English
  • At least 80 out of a maximum of 110 points in the internal selection process, which takes the following characteristics into account 
    • Final grade of the first academic degree: 
      Number of points = (4 – final grade) ∗ 15 points
    • Quality and suitability of the completed university degree: max. 50 points
    • Special academic achievements: max. 15 points

  • The Applied Materials Science Master‘s programme builds on a Bachelor‘s degree in materials science or technology. 
  • In four semesters, the knowledge from the Bachelor‘s degree course is expanded and systematically deepened. 
    Emphasis is placed on independent scientific work and research under supervision during the courses. 
    In the final semester, you will complete your Master‘s thesis and will present it in the final colloquium.
  • The Master‘s programme is offered in the winter semester. 
  • The language of instruction is English.
