Forschung

Mein Forschungsgebiet ist die stochastische Geometrie. In dieser mathematischen Disziplin werden Strukturen untersucht, die durch Objekte gebildet werden, die in zufälliger Lage und zufälliger Anzahl sowie mit zufälligen Formen vorkommen können. Es gibt für solche Strukturen vielfältige praktische Anwendungen, so zum Beispiel Einschlüsse oder Bruchstrukturen in den Materialwissenschaften und der Geologie oder auch Faserstrukturen (z.B. Papier) oder zufällige Ansammlungen von Punkten.

Meinen Forschungsschwerpunkt bilden die zufälligen Mosaike - das sind zufällige Zerlegungen der Ebene oder des Raumes. Ein biologisches Zellgewebe zum Beispiel oder auch eine Bruchstruktur zerlegen ein Gebiet in Zellen unterschiedlichster Formen. In den Untersuchungen geht es um die Entwicklung von mathematischen  Modellen für die Beschreibung solcher Strukturen. Desweiteren werden für diese Modelle dann Kenngrößen hergeleitet und charakteristische Eigenschaften betrachtet.
